Edmond Tay is a qualified Counsellor with a special interest in relationship and marriage aspect of Choice Theory. He holds a Masters degree in professional counselling from Swinburne University and Certification in Reality Therapy (William Glasser Institute). He is also a qualified administrator of Prepare/Enrich and T-JTA (Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis), both personality profiling tests are highly effective tools for couple and marriage counselling.
Edmond has over 30 years in Customer Service and Training in Singapore Airlines’ Cabin Crew Department. He has many years of experience in customer service and training during his career in Singapore Airlines. His exposure to the international community, places and cultures enriches his knowledge worthy of sharing with us. At his last position of Check Training Executive before retiring from the airlines, he was responsible for training and travelling to audit inflight service standards. After stepping out and retiring from the airlines, he continues to pursue his passion in learning and training by being active in counselling and training.
He is a believer of Dr William Glasser’s Choice Theory which explains human behaviour and of which the Reality Therapy is based on. Understanding and practising Choice Theory will free us to make choices that will bring us closer to people who are important to us, without depriving them of their choices. His “People Skills and Happier Relationships,” and Parenting talks are mostly based on Choice Theory concepts. Both Choice Theory & Reality Therapy, and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) techniques are also integrated into his counselling practice.
His past experience ranges from Associate Counsellor with Fei Yue Community Services and EMCC (Eagles Mediation and Counselling Centre) to Training Officer with William Glasser Institute (Singapore) and Education Advisor with MindChamps Singapore. Presently, ECTA (Executive Counselling and Training Academy) has appointed him to be one of their student counsellors.
He has conducted talks in SGH (Singapore General Hospital), NACLI (National Community Leadership Institute), corporations and various schools, on topics such as “A Happier Choice Marriage”, “A Happier Relationship”, “Projecting a Professional Image” “Stress Management”, ”Confronting the fear of Public Speaking”, “How to help your Child Succeed”, “Changing Sibling Rivalry into Responsibility”, “Preparing Your Child For Exams”, “Understanding NLP To Communicate With Your Teen”. In the last 3 years he has also been involved in training Secondary School students in the “Step-up Programme” and CCAs programme on study and emotional skills. In 2009 he conducted a pilot elective programme for Nanyang Polytechnic students, teaching them in a 7 week hourly talk on “Communicating and Influencing People through NLP.”
